Are You a Manager or a Leader?

www.teaguide.net

We all know that a leader motivates and a manager is a technician, there to get things done for you. However, as a leader and a successful entrepreneur, your main focus should be to put systems in place that will run your business for you, allowing you to work on your business, not in it, and the freedom you work for. Let the technicians run the day to day operations while you motivate your staff and make it all run like the proverbial well-oiled machine.

Does an Entrepreneur Have a Different Brain?

Have you ever wondered if there is a difference between the mind of a true female entrepreneur and that of other business owners out there? Why do some people seem to turn all they touch to gold, while others plug along, just earning a living, and still others fail with what seems like a perfectly good idea, or just never really getting their business noticed past their immediate hometown? Why do some seemingly tiny ideas grab the attention of the likes of Oprah, and blossom into a huge enterprise, when all these women are doing is reinventing the wheel, doing what has been done before?

To put out my best china, light a candle and use my favorite linen napkins says “You are worthy of my time.” Opening your home to those you barley know is exactly what hospitality means. Webster’s dictionary says “The warm reception of guests and strangers”

It’s Ok to be Loose: Tea that is

If your idea of a good cup of tea starts with plain tea bags from the grocery store, you are likely missing out on truly superior experience for you and your health. Before I explain why loose tea is better, I just want to let you know that I am mainly talking about generic supermarket tea bags. There are some excellent “whole leaf” bagged teas out there, made up of just that; whole tea leaves.

Mommy Dearest; or Dearest Mommy?

With Mothers Day around the corner it makes me think. Is this holiday the same reality for everyone? Let’s face it; just because she gave birth to us, doesn't mean she is necessarily the woman we would choose to include in our girl’s trip to the beach. If women are lucky enough to have a perfectly amazing relationship with their mothers, or Mothers-in-law, bravo! You need to write a book. But what if Mom, is more of a “Mommy Dearest” than a Mommy? Or worse yet, you don’t have a mother, she was abusive, or you are estranged from her emotionally, by distance or even death? How do you handle the foreboding of a pending Mothers Day with all its sunny reminders at every card isle and flower stand?

Homespun Marketing; What You Don’t Know May Kill You

Take it from one who knows. Get things in place to minimize future failure, even in what seems like the small stuff. When I started my business, I was bound and determined to do all the labels and newsletters myself without any outside help or taking out a loan no matter how small. Plugging along was fine, I thought I was doing so well. Newspapers and local magazines were willing to cover the charm of my product and I was on cloud nine. However, quandary began when I began to being contacted by other big named businesses for samples. In follow up phone calls, I was getting feedback that about dropped me to my knees. The main comment was always the same; “We absolutely loved the product, but do you have any other labels, or can we repackage this stuff ourselves?”

I felt like I had been kicked in the stomach. They want to repackage my product? What a polite way of saying it looks SO bad they don’t even want to put it on their shelves! To me it was just as painful as if my husband pulled out a photo of a model at cocktail parties claiming it was his wife.

Take a Midlife Chance

My husband Scott had a dream of owning a motorcycle again, like the one he owned as a teenager, back in 1974. Back when tearing up the neighbors' yard and using an unsuspecting parent’s lawnmower gas, was a great weekend pastime.  From time to time, he would mention that he would buy another bike someday. I rolled my eyes and said "Yeah, like that will ever happen." I always caught a slight look of hurt shoot across his face after I said that, as I walked by him with a load of laundry. I did feel a slight twinge of guilt, because I usually got what I wanted, including his undying support for my ideas and many career changes over our 20 years together. I was now forty years old and set in my ways I suspect. He must be going through some “midlife” crisis I reasoned. Not me, I knew who I was, and don’t need some dangerous toy to make me feel young again, or so I thought.

"How do you identify media and publicity channels to best reach your target audience and develop an image that translates to professionalism? This can be the single most challenging facet in business success. Establishing media attention needs to be at the helm of your ship. What about press releases, marketing packets, interviews, Web design and public speaking or your own personal image, a commonly overlooked area?".....

Hospitality a Lost Art?

How can you work on your own hospitality? When was the last time you spontaneously invited a neighbor over for no reason? Is this favorite past time becoming a lost art? Asking a new acquaintance to come over for tea speaks volumes. It says “I want to talk with you, spend time and get to know you”.  Hospitality is a gift, bestow it on someone and watch their reaction. To pamper someone changes things. Put out your best china, light a candle and use real linen tea napkins says; “You are worthy of my time”. Webster’s dictionary says: Hos´pi·tal´i·ty: The warm reception of guests and strangers.
